Seriously Robbo??? What are you running atm??? I picked up a HD 6990 a while ago and it eats BF3 for Breakfast. Something along those lines or a GTX 590 from nVidia... They're getting "old" now and Second hand is ok if you know who to look for.

If not, someting like the HD7970, GTX670 would be great. My old GTX570 struggled a little at higher graphic settings.

With Graphics Cards, I try to keep in the area of:

HD *970, *990
or
GTX *70, *80 or *90

AFAIK, the "90" at the end of each team denotes their "Dual GPU" or "Flagship" card, so the HD*970 / GTX*70 would be a great mid-high end card from either team.

Thanks Sarge, I am running a gtx570 at the moment however having probs with intermitent crashing on ultra high settings. Was thinking of upgrading and maybe switching to a HD card. If you could have any one you wanted whihc high end card would you currently buy out of HD or GTX?

I'm on the fence a little Robbo. I have been encountering a few issues with the AMD drivers lately, but that could well be my untidy system too.

Hardware wise, if you have a system and case and power supply that is capable, I'd nearly suggest running another one of those 570's in SLI, otherwise, the HD 7970 is pretty well on par with my 6990, but more efficient, so essentially better.

A lot of guys seem to be going for the GTX 680 of the MSI variety, but there's not enough of a performance increase for me to warrant the upgrade at the moment. (This may well benefit you a great deal though)

Is the rest of your system fairly good?

I run an i5 2500k and 16GB of RAM and it is pretty well the best all rounder for games and $$ now.

I do overclock it a little to around 4GHz too, which increases the game performance slightly, but unlike BFBC2, BF3 is more GPU intensive than CPU

Thanks Sarge, case space a little tight so no sli for me...as for the rest of the system I run a i5 2500 as well and 16gb RAM. I have a 850w PSU so plenty of power. I will have a look at the 680 gtx as that might be the go. BTW I am considering the Cosair H80 water cooler....no reason except to have the system running super cool. Have you looked at water cooling before?

I've got most of my kit ready to start a Watercooling build mate. I'm going the full Monty. CPU, GPU etc.

The H100 is supposed to be a good set and forget option, I wouldn't bother with other options except the Corsair one as they come with a pretty good Rep and Wrap

My setup for Watercooling so far has set me back around $300 and I still need to outlay another 2-3 hundred to finish it, then mod my case to suit radiators etc

At least with the corsair unit, you can mount the radiator part fairly easily into a double 120mm fan area. Most cases have a single 120mm fan at the rear, some have a double 120 at the top or front intake.

The ONLY reason I've decided to go for a complete WC setup is because the 6990 stock cooler is too loud at high temps and I need something to occupy my mind for a bit.

Sorry mate. Just realised you said H80. They are almost as good as the H100

yeah, chose the H80 over the H100 as the H80 only needs a single 120 mm fan mount...only space for 1 120 mm fan at the back :-) Will let you know how it goes. GL with your project
